Kbps (kilobits per second) - thousands
Mbps (megabits per second) - millions

Car1
Most rural Internet users without the ability to access high-speed lines are currently operating on telephone modems that range anywhere between 14.4 Kbps to 56.7 Kbps. These have the ability (at best) to transfer about three pages of information per second. A few may have access to shared T1 speed (156 Kbps of 1,544 Kbps) and therefore are able to transfer about 12 pages per second.

Car2
This new high-speed connectivity will enable the transfer or download of information much more efficiently. At 10 Mbps a facility will be able to receive or transfer 550 pages per second. 100 Mbps permits the transfer of 5,500 pages per second.
