July 12, 2004 - CommunityNet Goes Wireless - News Release
SaskTel has selected Saskatoon-based VCom Inc. (VCom), a world-leading designer and manufacturer of wireless telecom products, to provide the primary equipment required to deliver wireless Internet access to a number of rural Saskatchewan communities through the CommunityNet II initiative.
June 23, 2004 - CommunityNet Phase 2 Launched - News Release
Saskatchewan will continue to lead the way in Canada in deploying high-speed Internet service to rural communities through CommunityNet Phase 2. Through the use of new wireless technologies, an additional 71 communities are being added to the network. As well, most farmsteads and businesses within 30 kilometres of many existing CommunityNet centres will be able to access SaskTel's commericial high-speed network.
April 30, 2004 - CommunityNet Satellite Service to be Improved - News Release
Rural, remote and First Nations communities receiving their CommunityNet service via the Saskatchewan Communications Network (SCN) satellite network will soon see improvements to their service. SCN is launching the first commercial deployment of a new world-wiode two-way satellite system. The upgrade results from an innovative partnership between SCN, Saskatchewan Learning, Keewatin Career Development Corporation (KCDC) and Industry Canada.

An initiative put forward by the Meadow Lake Tribal Council, the Prince Albert Grand Council and New North has been selected to receive assistance from Industry Canada to deploy broadband to an estimated 37 local unserved communities.
October 1, 2003 - CommunityNet-based Educational Pilot Project Launched - News Release
A new computer application pilot project that will operate over the CommunityNet data network is being tested by several Saskatchewan school divisions. The application offers secure areas for communication between administrators and teachers, lesson planning for teachers, sharing of best practices, communication between parents and schools, student assignments, and more.

September 5, 2002 - Federal Broadband for Rural and Northern Development Pilot Program Announced - News Release
The Honourable Allan Rock, Minister of Industry, and the Honourable Andy Mitchell, Secretary of State (Rural Development) (FedNor), launched the $105 million Broadband for Rural and Northern Development Pilot Program. With a specific focus on unserved rural, remote, First Nations, and northern communities, the program will demonstrate the benefits of broadband access in areas such as health care and education, and in unleashing communities' economic potential. The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are providing more than $4.47 million to install the CommunityNet high speed Internet service to 162 libraries throughout the province.

SaskTel is expanding its High Speed Internet service to 191 more Saskatchewan communities over the next two years.
June 18, 2001 - CommunityNet Cited as National Model
The National Broadband Task Force is touting CommunityNet, along with similar initiatives in the Yukon and Alberta, as the national model for broadband delivery. The Task Force says the three high-speed initiatives are the most advanced undertaken by any comparable jurisdictions in the world. June 7, 2001 - CommunityNet Goes Live
After more than a year of hard work, the province's CommunityNet high-speed, broadband Internet initiative is now a reality. Westview Elementary School in Estevan officially became the first of more than 1,500 facilities in 366 Saskatchewan centres to be connected to the province-wide network.
